Synopsis
A psychobabbling 25-year-old girl, nicknamed Freud, is the focus of this bittersweet comedy.  Freud still lives at home with her Jewish family in Stockholm. As her family comes together for their mother's 60th birthday party, they are given the news of the mother's fatal illness. Forced to confront the reality of their relationships and their identities, the family members reach a point of recognition and Freud tries to flee the family drama.

Directors Biography
Susanne Bier was born in 1960, Denmark. Graduate of the National Film School of Danmark, 1987.
Bier's feature film debut 'Freud Leaving Home' (1990) was recipient of international plaudits, as was 'Family Matters’ (1993). 'Like It Never was Before’ (1995) was recipient of the Critic's Award at Montreal. Following 'The One and Only’ (1999), made her an established filmmaker. Two boxoffice hits followed: the Dogme film ‘Open Hearts’ (2002), selected for San Sebastian, Sundance, and Toronto where it received Special Mention; and ‘Brothers’ (2004), recipient of the Audience Award at Sundance and Best Acting awards at San Sebastian. Oscar-nominated ‘After the Wedding’ (2006) and ‘Things We Lost in the Fire’ (2007) were both hits at the domestic box office. ‘In a Better World’ (2010) opened to rave reviews and top boxoffice, toured worldwide – returning with prestigious awards from Rome and Seville, a Golden Globe and an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
