Directors Biography
Dušan Makavejev was born in Belgrade in 1931. He is the key figure of the cinematography of former Yugoslavia. His internationally acclaimed films were breaking – and still keep breaking – many political and sexual taboos. Besides his feature-length debut, 'Man Is Not a Bird' (1965), 'Love Affair, or the Case of the Missing Switchboard Operator' is the best known film early career. In addition to a wild narrative that follows the love affair of two marginal urban characters, Makavejev inserts into the film's dramaturgic fabric the elements from Yugoslav urban everyday life and some archive footage. Besides the above mentioned films, Makavejev has also indebted us with his ‘W.R. – Misteries of Organism’ (1971), ‘Sweet Movie’ (1974), ‘Montenegro' (1981), 'Manifesto' (1989), 'Gorilla Baths at Noon' (1993), 'A Hole in the Soul' (1994).
