The new media seminar will give you an unique compact introduction to the new world of new media and digital platforms, with examples, and business cases.
Lecture one: What is new Media?
Asta Wellejus will give a marathon crash course in what new media means, with old and new examples from around the world. The rules of the old film world has been changed, and new rules regarding development of stories, distribution and the involvement of the users has emerged. New story and advertising formats as ARG ( Alternate Reality Games ) will be shown.

Lecture two: How do you do it?
Frank Boyd will present some recent case studies from the UK focusing on how broadcasters are adapting to the challenge of new platforms to use the web alongside traditional broadcast and to use new formats, including games.’ He will also outline some tools and techniques which have proved valuable in devising and developing crossplatform or transmedia projects, including structures for pitches or proposal documents including user focused design processes.’

Lecture three: What are the business deals and who are some of the ‘new platforms’ out there, buying or funding?
Wendy Bernfeld, will outline some of the major new media video platforms (online, mobile, handheld device platforms, VOD, etc) and the evolving business and consumer models (including rental, subscription, ad supported, and sell-thru/download to own.) Using these latest trends as a springboard, she will discuss various ways producers can monetize their programs via new media in various situations: (i) already-produced programs (library) moving to new media platforms; (ii) mobisodes, webisodes or other programs made specifically for new media; and (iii) productions addressing new media from inception, ie trans-media (cross platform) projects. On the practical side, Wendy will explain the various buzz words and business models and highlight some key rights issues , and then provide afterwards some additional helpful handouts for producers when developing their projects for broader distribution.
