PRESENTATION AND FILM SCREENING goEast – FESTIVAL OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPEAN FILMS
Launched in 2001 by Deutsches Filminstitut, goEast revolves round films made in Central and Eastern Europe. In the course of seven days in Wiesbaden, goEast unfolds a diverse programme encompassing cinematic trends, experimental positions and historical rarities. The agenda of goEast, conceived as a forum of east-west dialogue, is dominated by questions of (multiple) European identities and processes of rapid social and political transformation. The programme expresses a cultural mission: to provide a public platform for remarkable, unusual and engaged films unlikely to find distribution on the commercial cinema circuit. Festival visitors – filmmakers and industry specialists from Germany and abroad, local film enthusiasts and international guests – are enthusiastic about the quality and special atmosphere of a festival that facilitates the exchange of skills and knowledge. goEast is dedicated to the cinematic experience, to new developments and topical themes, to the artistic heritage of eastern European film. The Documentary Award ‘Remembrance and Future’ On Tour The Documentary Award ‘Remembrance and Future’ aims to honour directors, who critically analyze social developments and its reasons in their countries of origin. Since 2008, the distinction has been awarded jointly in Wiesbaden by the Foundation ‘Remembrance, Responsibility and Future’ and goEast – Festival of Central and Eastern European Film. Six films are nominated annually for the documentary award, which is endowed with prize money of 10,000 euro. The Documentary Award ‘Remembrance and Future’ On Tour projection series aims an extended public attention for these films beyond the festival borders. In fall 2011 the series will take place for the fourth time at different locations in Germany and one stop in Central or Eastern Europe.
