INTRODUCTION AND FILM PROJECTION: TAMPERE FILM FESTIVAL

I am very pleased that I have a chance to get to know new Croatian films and film makers. I have of course seen some of the newest films, but as always if one sees films in their 'natural habitat'  and given a chance to talk with the film makers makes it always more interesting. I of course hope that with this visit there will be more interest for finnish films and that I can present more Croatian films in Finland.

Tampere film festival will have its 42nd edition in 2012, so it is one of the oldest short film festivals around. Almost from the beginning it has had the same basic structure: An international competition for short films (under 30 minutes), finnish competition that includes short and medium length films (under 60 minutes)  and even  feature length documentaries. Also in the programme there are retrospectives, special focuses on countries or subjects and other screenings of which silent films accompanied with live music have been quite successful. The idea for the festival came about in 1968 at the local student house and the festival still tries to carry the ideas of that special time to today´s world. For us ethics is as important as aesthetics in cinema.
